Highway remains closed for weekly repairs

The vehicular traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained suspended Wednesday owing to the weekly repairs and maintenance of the road.

Earlier, the government had issued orders for keeping highway closed for traffic to facilitate the necessary repairs and maintenance of the road.

Due to suspension of the traffic, two sub divisions – Ramsu and Banihal, besides scores of villages falling under Ramban tehsil remained disconnected with the district headquarters as the contractor companies carried out excavation work between Nashri-Ramban and Ramban-Banihal stretches of the highway.

Meanwhile, the traffic plan issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters Srinagar and Jammu said that subject to fair weather and good road condition, only one-way traffic would be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar on the highway on Thursday.

It said that the cut off timing would be 7am to 12pm from Nagrota Jammu and 8 am to 1pm from Jakhani Udhampur for the light motor vehicles after which the heavy motor vehicles would be allowed from Nagrota and Jakhani Udhampur towards Kashmir.
