Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in collaboration with ShriLaxmi Narayan Mandir, Gandhi Nagar on Wednesday organised an awarenessprogramme regarding waste flower management.
Waste flower management work deals with collection,handling, utilisation and management of the waste flowers that are coming outof the temples in Jammu and surroundings.
The awareness programme focused on conversion of variousthings offered to deities, like flowers, leaves, fruits, coconuts, clothes intocompost.
As religious sites around Jammu are looking for ways toreuse or recycle floral waste, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has offered tocollect floral waste from the step of Mandirs to convert the waste into compostat Bhagwati Nagar based center of the corporation.
As of now, most of the temples are dumping their flowerwastes in nearby water bodies or leaving it in plastic bags under trees.
Since dumping flower wastes in water bodies is risky for theaquatic life, the JMC has requested all the temple committees to cooperate withcorporation by handing it over all the temple wastes so that it is convertedinto compost.
