Kathua police crack 1 crore robbery case, 8 arrested

Jammu and Kashmir police has cracked the sensational Rs 1 crore robbery case in Kathua and arrested 8 accused besides recovery of over Rs 29 lakh from their possession. 

On October 26, a goods carrier truck allegedly belonging to Montage Industries Private Limited, Bari Brahmana, was stopped by gunmen near Barwal Morh, Kathua on the Jammu-Pathankot highway and an amount of Rs 1 crore was looted from the vehicle at gunpoint.

   

According to SSP Kathua, Sridhar Patil, around 10 people, 5 of them from the Bari Brahamana factories along with other people hatched a conspiracy to loot the cash.

“On October 26, the accused boarded a Bolero and intercepted a goods carrier truck of Montage Industry Private Limited, Bari Brahamana near Barwal Morh, Kathua and looted a box of cash amounting to Rs 1 crore,” he said, while addressing media men here.

About whose cash was it, he said, “The forward and backward linkages of the cash are being investigated.”

On whether there was only one box of cash in the vehicle that was looted, the senior police officer said, “As per the complainant and our investigation report till now, there was only one box of cash in the vehicle that was to be unloaded somewhere at Noida.”

The SSP Kathua said that after registration of a case at Kathua police station vide FIR number 398/2018 under sections 341, 392 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act, 8 suspects were interrogated who confessed to their involvement in the crime. “They have been arrested,” said the police officer.

The accused have been identified as Kiran Bhagat @ Chottu of Kheri Sandi, Samba; Pintu Jamwal of Raipur, Samba; Gourav Kumar Gautam of Bulandsher, UP at present sector 7, Gangyal, Jammu; Vikas Talwar of Maitra, Ramban; Ajay Kumar of Sikanderpur, Mujaffarnagar, Khatli, UP; Yogesh Salgotra of Greater Kailash, Jammu; Rajat Kagial @Raju of Jorian, Jammu and Varun Singh of ward number 10, Budhwani Samba.

The SSP Kathua, Sridhar Patil, further said that an amount of Rs 29, 84, 500 has been recovered from the accused.

“Around 2-3 more accused in the case would be arrested soon,” he said.
