Labourers waiting for bus hit by speeding truck in Kathua; 3 killed, 4 injured

Three labourers from Chhattisgarh died and four were injured when they were hit by a truck at Chandwan Morh in Kathua district on Wednesday, a police official said.

The official said the victims were waiting for a bus at Chandwan Morh when hit by the rashly-driven truck. Two of them died on the spot while one succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. Four others sustained injuries.

   

After preliminary treatment at sub-district hospital Hiranagar, all the injured were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for advanced treatment.

SHO Rajbagh, Sarabjeet Singh, told Greater Kashmir, “It is a hit and run case. After the accident, we used the CCTV footage of the spot. The driver of the vehicle was chased and overpowered on the Jammu-Pathankot Highway by a police party.”

He said the accused driver has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized.

Police identified the deceased as Manoj Kumar, Mahavir Yadav and Ratram, all residents of Chhattisgarh, at present Chandwan Morh, Kathua.

The injured have been identified as Panna Lal, Ghashi Ram, Ram Kirpal and Ram Sahai, all residents of Chhattisgarh, at present Chandwan Morh, Kathua.

Bodies of the deceased were shifted to the mortuary of SDH Hiranagar for performing the legal formalities after which they will be handed over to the family members of the deceased.
