Jammu and Kashmir ministers and senior government officers today removed red beacon lights from their official vehicles.

The move comes a day after the Union Cabinet's decision to remove 'lal battis' from all vehicles, including that of the Prime Minister and the President.

Ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi and others arrived at the civil secretariat in beacon-less vehicles.

Similarly, senior bureaucrats including chief secretary B R Sharma, Financial Commissioner, Planning and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B B Vyas, Principal Secretary, Home, R K Goyal, Director General of Police, S P Vaid and senior officers were also seen in vehicles without beacon light.

"Almost all the cabinet ministers have removed the red beacon from cars. The chief secretary along with many other bureaucrats did the same thing and entered in offices in beacon-less vehicles," said a security official at the civil secretariat Jammu. GKNN
