Jammu and Kashmir National Panther Party (JKNPP) today threatened agitation against the levying of Toll from vehicles on Bann Toll Plaza Nagrota.
The party asked the government to remove Toll Plaza or be ready to face the consequences.
Addressing a press conference, Harsh Dev Singh, chairman JKNPP said Union government doling out the most differential treatment to the people of Jammu region by imposing unnecessary 'Jazia' on Shri Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnath Ji Yatries pilgrims in shape of huge toll tax.
"Union Government has closed down 62 toll plazas across the country on National Highways and Expressways recently in 'public interest' but the Bann toll plaza is not included in that list despite of several appeals in this regard," he said.
Hailing the closure of the said Toll Plazas in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Gujrat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh on public demand, he questioned the state and central government for discriminatory treatment doled out to J&K 'which was also being governed by a BJP partnered government'.
He regretted that despite public protests and demonstrations for removal of Bann Toll Plaza, the elected representatives failed to impress upon the concerned authorities to remove the same on the analogy of the aforesaid 62 Toll Plazas removed in various other states.
"Union as well as state government for neglecting the Dogra Land and duly elected MPs and MLAs of the region had miserably failed to espouse the cause of Jammu public at appropriate forums resulting in their deprivation," he said.
