Over 100 damaged distribution transformers await repairs in Jammu’s central workshop

As the power crisis continues in Jammu region, the distribution transformers are also on a burning spree as around hundred (100) damaged transformers from different parts of the Jammu region have been awaiting repairs at central workshop, Narwal.

Sources in the Power Development Department (PDD) informed that on an average around 10 to 15 distribution transformers are getting damaged on a daily basis across Jammu region.

Sources however, said that the number of distribution transformers getting damaged or burnt on a daily basis is much higher.

The damaged transformers are first brought to the divisional workshop of the concerned division. If the fault is not rectified there, then they are brought to the central workshop at Narwal.

They said that at the central workshop, around 5 to 7 transformers are repaired on a daily basis which is far less than the number of damaged transformers brought to the workshop for repairs.

The number of damaged transformers on a daily basis increases with rise in temperature. At the Electric Central Workshop, Narwal, the damaged distribution transformers from entire Jammu region are brought for repairs.

XEn, Electric Central Workshop, Narwal, SL Thappa said that they have a buffer stock from where the distribution transformers are provided to the area from where the damaged transformer is brought to the central workshop.

“We have sufficient buffer stock to meet the requirements,” Thappa told Greater Kashmir.

If the number of damaged transformers is more, we send them to Small Scale Industries units for repairs, Thappa said.

It may be mentioned here that Jammu has been facing worst power crisis with officials saying that the transformers get overloaded with rise in temperature.

As the temperature rises, the transformers get overloaded and they often burn or get damaged.
