Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Sanjeev Gupta today awarded two years imprisonment and fine Rs 2000 to Harbans Lal then Patwari Halqa Ratnal Tehsil Bishnah, Jammu who was caught 'red-handed' by the Vigilance Organization Jammu (VOJ) while taking bribe.
As per VOJ case accused Harbans Lal during his posting as patwari Halqa Ratnal, Tehsil Bishnah fell in VO net and was caught red handed while accepting bribe from Sham Lal. Sham had filed a complainant with VO that the Patwari Harbans Lal was demanding Rs 4000 bribe for obtaining copy of "Misel Haquit" of his 15 kanal and 11 marlas land comprised in khasra No.174.
After hearing CPO Harminder Singh for the VOJ and Adv KS Charak for the accused, Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Sanjeev Gupta observed that act of the accused is no less than extortion under the colour of his official duty which had brought a bad name to the entire institution amounting to betrayal of trust of his office for individual pecuniary gain.
"Therefore, accused deserves no sympathy who being convicted under Section 5(1) (d) r/w section 5 (2) P.C.Act and section 161 RPC is sentenced to simple imprisonment for two years and fine of Rs.5000 under each offence" the court ordered.
