Property worth lakhs of rupees was reduced to ashes when a house was gutted in a mysterious fire incident in Bagadan village in Tehsil Kahara in Doda district late last night, witnesses and reports said on Monday.
According to reports, Muhammad Sharief Wani son of Abdul Karim, alongwith his family members, has gone to Gandoh to meet some relatives. "When they came back late last night, they found their house in flames and immediately raised an alarm. Within no time, dozens of villagers gathered and tried to douse the flames with mud but all their efforts fell in vain as the house was made of cedar and pine wood. Within three hours, the complete structure and all belongings inside turned into ashes," they said.
Later a police party from Kahara also reached the spot. However fire tenders could not reach there as Bagaran village is three-km away from nearby motorable road.
The family members have alleged some foul-play as the village is without electricity and there is no chance of a short circuit.
Meanwhile, police has registered a case and started investigation to ascertain the cause of fire.
"I was on spot, but we are investigating all angles. According to family members, they don't have any animosity with anyone in the village," said SHO Gandoh, Tariq Hussain Naik. "We have lodged an open FIR 123/2016 and registered a case under section 436 RPC at Police Station Gandoh. As of now we have not made any arrests."
