Punjab drivers assault case: Police register case against both groups

The police registered a case against Punjab and local cab drivers for flaring up tensions and rumor mongering here on Thursday.

Police said that brawl had erupted on Sunday between cab drivers from Punjab and Jammu at Mangal market near Railway station after former were ferrying Amarnathyatris in their cabs which infuriated the latter. “When Punjab drivers were ferrying pilgrims, several drivers associated with local taxi union confronted them, resulting into a brawl. Local drivers smashed the windowpanes of non-state privately-run taxis and forced them to run away,” said a police official.

   

He said after the incident Punjab drivers started circulating rumors about attack on yatris. The case has been registered into the incident against both parties, he added.
