Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy (SJA) today organized oath ceremony and lecture on 'Professional Ethics and Conduct' for newly enrolled advocates of Jammu province at J&K State Judicial Academy, Janipur Jammu.
Proceedings were conducted by Abdul Rashid Malik, director, J&K State Judicial Academy. He welcomed all the newly enrolled Advocates present in the function and administered oath to all of them. Speaking on the occasion, Malik highlighted the principles of judicial ethics and qualities of a good lawyer.
"This event will surely guide the young lawyers towards high constitutional values and service to the society," he said. Speaking on the occasion, Malik emphasised that lawyers must be orally articulate, have good written communication skills and also be good listeners in order to argue convincingly in the courtroom before judges.
"Lawyers speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. The marginalised sections of the society including women, children, old-aged, disabled, poor and indigent look towards the lawyers for redressal of their grievances. A lawyer is a bridge between justice and access to justice. He gives confidence to his client to pursue the cause of justice," he said.
"At times, there will be more than one reasonable conclusion, or more than one precedent applicable to resolving a situation, a lawyer must therefore be in a position to evaluative skills in order to choose which is the most suitable. Similarly, being able to research quickly and effectively is essential to understanding your clients, their needs, and to preparing legal strategies," he said.
'Preparing legal strategies requires absorbing and comprehending large amounts of information, then distilling them down into something manageable and useful. The top lawyers are not only logical and analytical, but they display a great deal of creativity in their problem solving," he said. The proceedings concluded by distribution of certificates of enrolment amongst the lawyers.
