A large number of students hailing from districts of Leh and Kargil here on Thursday held protest demanding separate university in the Ladakh region of the state.
Student leaders hailing from these twin districts highlighted the problems being faced by the students of Ladakh region in Jammu University as well as in Kashmir University.
They said, "In Jammu and Kashmir we have almost 8 universities distributed among Jammu and Kashmir without even a single university for Ladakh, which is discrimination on the part of authorities."
The lack of higher educational facilities has kept Ladakh economically backward, said protesters.
The protesters appealed authorities to look into the demand of opening separate university so that maximum numbers of the students from the Ladakh region are benefited.
