Tarigami questions govt over security of Panchayat poll candidates

CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami today said the “Panchayat polls will meet same fate as that of Parliamentary polls for Anantnag which were deferred by government 12 hours before the scheduled time, despite making all the arrangements for it.”

“I have apprehensions candidates will submit election forms and government will postpone the election,” he said and questioned the government about the security of the candidates. “What will happen to those candidates as you have already cut security of former legislators?” he asked.

Meanwhile he alleged that work supervisors under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) have “become private contractors who hire ruling party workers as labourers.”

“The problem is that state government have diluted the concept of MGNREGA from work generation at the rural level to asset creation scheme,” he said.
