Trial of Jammu cable car on April 15, project to be ready by July: Govt

Giving fresh impulse to tourism sector in Jammu city, the government on Tuesday said that trial run of Jammu Cable Car Project would be on April 15, while the project would be completed by July 2018.

As per a government spokesperson, Committee on Public Undertakings (PUC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly under the chairmanship of Sat Pal Sharma conducted an extensive inspection of State Cable Car Project at Bahu Fort-Mahamaya-Peerkhu and Sidhra Golf Club Jammu.

   

Managing director, JK Cable Car Corporation Limited, (JKCCCL) Shamim Ahmed Wani informed the committee that first trial on Bahu Fort to Mahamaya park stretch of cable car will be conducted on 15th April.

“48-meters section of the cable car from Bahu Fort to Mahamaya Park is almost complete and ready for the trial,” the spokesperson said.

“However, the 1,184-meters section from Peerkho to Mahamaya park is expected to be completed by June as critical components and imported parts are to be procured from Turkey, Switzerland, Austria and Germany,” he said.

He also said that entire project will be ready by July 2018 and shall be a major tourist attraction and will help boost the tourism sector in Jammu.

The foundation stone of the cable car project in Jammu was laid on February 24, 2014, at an estimated cost of Rs 74.98 crore.

Meanwhile, the Committee also visited the Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC) and took stock of its functioning.

Earlier, the Committee also held a meeting at Assembly Secretariat to examine the CAG’s Audit Paras pertaining to the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation Limited (JKTDC).

Legislators G M Saroori, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Raja Manzoor Ahmed, Abdul Majid Larmi, Rajesh Gupta and Vikram Randhawa besides officials were present on the occasion.
