A youth was charred to death, while two others sustained burn injuries after the tin-shed of a roadside eatery caught fire, here at Bhawan area of Katra on Wednesday.

Reports said, "At around 2 am, a fire erupted in the tin-shed of the roadside eatery (dhaba), located at shop number 6, at Bhawan. As a result, a youth was charred to death, while two others sustained burn injuries. Prima facie, it seems like the fire was caused due to a short circuit."

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Singh (19), son of Bansi Lal and a resident of Devigarh, Bhomag tehsil in Reasi district. He was a worker at the eatery, reports said.

The injured have been identified as Ravi Singh (18), son of Naseeb Singh and a resident of Ladda village, Mongri tehsil in district Udhampur, and Sikandar Singh (16), son of Sheetal Singh of Devigarh village, Bhomag tehsil in district Reasi.

The injured were rescued and hospitalized.

The workers were asleep when the fire broke out, a police officer said, adding that police has registered a case and started investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.
