Srinagar, Dec 17: Peoples Conference (PC) leader Basharat Bukhari Friday expressed dismay over the non-issuance of ration cards to more than 15,000 families in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A statement of PC issued here quoted Bukhari as saying that the crisis had engulfed thousands of households, pushing the families into distress.

Bukhari said that the administration did not even deem it necessary to issue ration cards to the families who had shifted out of joint families and started new households.

“While these families are registered in the joint family ration cards, new ration cards for nuclear families have not been issued. This is causing immense difficulties in the procurement of ration for such households,” he said.

Bukhari said it was unfortunate to find those at the helm turning a blind eye towards the needs of the people and leaving the downtrodden masses at the mercy of black marketers.

He demanded an immediate issuance of ration cards to such households and impressed upon the government to turn assiduous towards the people of Baramulla.
