1990 IAF personnel killings: Court frames charges against Yasin Malik, six others

A special court in Jammu on Monday framed charges againstJammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik and six others in acase involving the killing of Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Squadron LeaderRavi Khanna and three others in 1990.

“You by doing all the afore referred criminal acts infurtherance of the execution of earlier hatched deep-rooted criminal conspiracyamong you and co-accused of the case as detailed in the police charge-sheet ofthe CBI have prima facie committed offenses,” the TADA court observed,according to a report published in Business Standard.

   

The court slated the case for further hearing on March 30.

Charges were framed under several relevant sections of theRanbir Penal Code (RPC), Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Actand Arms Act of the RPC.

The court had earlier observed that accused Yasin Malik, AliMohammad Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Sofi alias Mustafa, Javed Ahmed Mir alias Nalka,Nana Ji alias Saleem, Javed Ahmad Zargar and Showkat Ahmed Bakshi prima faciehave committed the offense.

On January 25, 1990, four IAF personnel including SquadronLeader Ravi Khanna were killed by gunmen in Rawalpora area of Srinagar.Malik was charge-sheeted by the Central Bureauof Investigation (CBI) before the TADA court in Jammu on August 31, 1990, inthis connection. Malik has been arrested in an alleged militancy funding caseby the National Investigative Agency (NIA) and is currently lodged in TiharJail.
