2 army porters injured in Khundroo blast: Police

Two army porters were injured in an “accidental” explosion at the army’s 21 field ammunition depot at Khundroo in Shangus area of Anantnag district on Tuesday, the police said.

A senior police official identified the injured as Jahangir Ahmad and Bilal Ahmad, both residents of Khundroo.

They were admitted to the district hospital wherefrom they were referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar for specialised treatment, he said.

The police have registered a case and started investigation to ascertain the cause of the blast, the official said.

The army on the other hand denied the incident.

Army’s Srinagar-based spokesman Rajesh Kalia claimed that there was no blast at Khundroo.

On August 11 in 2007, three persons, including a civilian, were killed and over 40 others injured in Khundroo ammunition depot fire, forcing thousands of villagers to run for their safety.
