2 drug peddlers arrested in Baramulla, contraband substance recovered in Shopian

Srinagar, May 5: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 2 drug peddlers in Baramulla besides recovering huge quantities of contraband substances from residential houses in Shopian.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Post Wagoora headed by Incharge PP Wagoora at a checkpoint established at Takiya Tapper Baramulla, intercepted a person identified as Aqib Ahmad Parray,resident of Vijipora Bandipora. During the search, 30 grams of contraband Charas-like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Kreeri where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kreeri and investigation has been initiated.

   

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Uri headed by SHO PS Uri at a checkpoint established at Paranpeelan Uri, intercepted a person identified as Arif Jungwa, resident of Machikrund Uri. During the search, 1.60 Kgs of Cannabis powder and 34 grams of Charas were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Uri where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Uri and investigation has been initiated.

In Shopian, Police Post Wachi received information through reliable sources that one person namely Mohd Saleem Koka, resident of Melhura has concealed charas like contraband substances in his residential house.

Accordingly, a police party from Police Post Wachi alongwith Executive Magistrate raided the residential house. During the search, a Charas-like substance, weighing about 6 kg 308 grams concealed in two nylon polythene bags was recovered from the residential house. However, the accused person managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to nab him. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 35/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
