2 drug peddlers from Budgam booked under PSA: Police

Police on Friday said it booked two notorious drug peddlers under Public Safety Act and arrested one drug peddler from Srinagar.

A statement said policehad seized huge quantity of psychotropic substances from the possession of thetwo drug peddlers.

   

“A case (FIR No 27/2020)was registered in police station Magam in this regard. Accordingly the case wasduly processed and the arrested drug peddlers were detained under Public SafetyAct after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities,” said thestatement.

The accused have beenidentified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Pandith and Muhammad Amin Dar @ Kantro – bothresidents of Check Kawoosa.

In Srinagar, the statementsaid, officers at a checkpoint on Padan Crossing, Nowhatta intercepted anindividual identified as Javid Ahmed Gilkar of Mir Mohalla, Zaina Kadal here.

“He was trying to avoidpolice checkpoint in suspicious manner. The officers were recovered 2112tablets of Spasmoproxyvon and 30 tablets of Alprasafe from his possession. Hehas been arrested and shifted to police station Nowhatta where he remains incustody,” said the statement.

It said a case (FIR No.11/2020) has been registered at police station Nowhatta and furtherinvestigation into the matter was in progress.

“Community members arerequested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in theirneighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as perlaw,” said the statement.

It said: “Our consistent actions against drug peddlersshould reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep oursociety free from the scourge of drug menace.”
