2 major roads in every constituency to be upgraded: A R Veeri
Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Tuesday directed the officers of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) to identify two major roads in every constituency which would be upgraded during this financial year.
The Minister stated this while chairing a review meeting with officers of PMGSY at Srinagar. The Minister said the Centre has assured the J&K government of all help in building sustainable infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, PMGSY, DD Gorkha, Chief Engineer, R&B Kashmir, Satish Razdan and other officers of the department.
The Minister was informed that out of 653 habitations, 591 habitations were connected through road network under Phase 3 and 4 of PMGSY by ending March 2016 while out of 880 schemes approved under the schemes at the cost of Rs 1870 crore 720 schemes have been completed at the cost of Rs 1340 crore.
The officers informed the Minister that under PMGSY, the department has identified 160 works for current financial year. Further out of 109 schemes, 15 will be executed in first quarter, 29 in second, 38 in third and 27 in fourth.
The Minister was informed that about 51 schemes have been put on hold due to land acquisition and forest clearance issues, resulting in cost escalation. Mr. Veeri told the officers to prepare the list of problems confronting the implementation of schemes under PMGSY in Kashmir. He said the proposal for dealing with cost escalation of projects can be put up before the cabinet.
The Minister also assured the department that the liability with the state government will be cleared soon. He said an ambitious scheme such as PMGSY can be more beneficial for valley where the terrain is easier as compared with the Jammu region.
The Minister said he will take a review meeting of the department in one month's time, asserting the meeting that the officers who perform will be suitably rewarded.
