2 OGWs held for rifle-snatching bid: Police

Three days after the two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of a militant outfit wrestled with a bank security guard, in Khrew, in order to snatch his gun, the police Monday claimed that it had caught the two men for what the police termed as a crime. 

A senior police official said that on August 10 two persons barged inside the Jammu & Kashmir bank Khrew branch and attacked the bank guard with pepper spray and a sharp-edged weapon in an attempt to snatch his 12 bore rifle. But the security guard was successful in fending off the duo.

   

The guard during the battle sustained injuries and was shifted to the nearest Khrew hospital for medical treatment while as the attackers fled away from the spot.

“Consequent upon this case FIR No. 57/2018 under relevant sections of law was registered at police station Khrew and the investigation in the instant matter was initiated,” said the police spokesman.

“During the course of investigation it came across that two OGWs namely Yasir Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Babapora, and Yawar Sultan son of Mohd Sultan resident of SharShaliKhrew were involved in the commission of crime and were subsequently arrested. Investigation of the case is still going on.”
