2 persons missing in Bandipora village since snowfall

Two persons have gone missing following heavy snowfall in Vewan village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said today.

A police official said that seven persons had gone to Kuthpathri forest area a week ago, however, they started returning home after weather became hostile.

“Five persons reached home safely while two lost their way due to snowfall and misty conditions,” the official said, adding that their whereabouts are not known since Friday.

Local sources identified the missing persons as Ghulam Qadir Bhat and Abdul Ahad Sheikh, both residents of Vewan.

The official said a team of Pethkoot police station is stationed in the village to trace the duo. He said the area has received around 4 feet deep snow and it’s difficult to carry out rescue operation in such conditions.

“The village also does not have any mobile communication. The lack of communication has made the rescue operation a bit difficult,” he said.

Meanwhile, family members of the missing persons have appealed to the higher authorities to launch a rescue operation and help trace the whereabouts of their missing kin.
