Srinagar, Oct 9: At least 31619 refugee families from Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) are registered with the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
The State Government Tuesday revealed that as per records 31619 families stand registered as DPs of 1947 with Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Jammu. In a written reply to the query of BJP legislator Jugal Kishore, the Government revealed that in district Islamabad (Anantnag) of Kashmir total population of PaK refugees is 920 souls.
In its reply, the Government said it has adopted a policy of Rehabilitation of DPs of 1947 from PaK. "The DPs (Rural Allotees) have been given ex-gratia relief of Rs 5000 per Kanal to a maximum of Rs 25000 per family. An amount of Rs five crore was released in favour of Custodian (Ex. Officio Provincial Rehabilitation Officer Jammu)," the Government said.
"Almost 1873 families have been paid an amount of Rs 423.71 lakhs. An amount of Rs 25 crores has also been disbursed among 2,444 eligible families till date."
As many as 1873 families have been paid an amount of Rs 423.71 lakhs, the government stated. The urban DPs are however yet to be allotted with the plots/quarters.
"In district Anantnag (Islamabad), 496 kanals of State land has been allotted to PaK refugees in Rakh Brah in Shangus Tehsil for residential purposes," the state government said.
