Srinagar: The government on Saturday said Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, has been appointed as inquiry officer in Mendhar firing case in which three civilians were killed.
The minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs said an FIR has been registered against the erring officers.
Meanwhile, he said government has appointed a Commission of Inquiry comprising Justice (Retd) Syed Bashir-ud-Din and Justice YP Nargotra to enquire into the death of 17 persons in Kashmir since June 11, 2010.
"19 FIRs have been registered against security forces and police personnel where allegations of unprovoked firing or use of excessive force were allegedly made. Investigation in these cases is going on," he added.
However, the minister said government had no full details about the persons, who were assaulted and succumbed to their injuries since January 2010 till August 2010 due to unrest in Kashmir valley. "Government is collecting the information," he said.
