Srinagar, Oct 9: The State Government is mulling to constitute J&K Minority Commission to look into the issues of minorities in the state.
In a reply to the query of Dharam Bir Singh Oberoi, the state government has stated that it is "thinking to constitute the J&K Minority Commission to look into the matters of minorities exactly on the pattern of National Minority Commission Act 1992."
The state government said as per the National Minority Commission Act, 1992 the Sikh Community has been notified as minority.
Pertinently, Sikh community, which is in minority in J&K state have been demanding the "minority status" as is enjoyed by their counterparts in other parts of the country.
The NCM has also written to the Government of India to amend the NCM Act and make it applicable to J&K state as well. It has also taken up the issue with the J&K Government.
