HC directs law secretary to arrange counsel

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Monday directed its Registry to issue notice to the state law secretary for making arrangements for appearance of a counsel in a criminal appeal.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Monday directed its Registry to issue notice to the state law secretary for making arrangements for appearance of a counsel in a criminal appeal.

" The issuance of direction became imperative as the appellant is in custody for about eight years,"  a division bench of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey ordered while hearing a criminal appeal(20/2013) titled Abdul Rashid Wani and others versus State of J&K and others.

Meanwhile, the bench asked the Registry to inform Superintendent Jail Srinagar to file report as directed vide court order of December 18, 2014. 

 The Jail superintendent, the bench said, shall be also informed that in default, has to appear in person before the court on next date of hearing.
