Srinagar, Oct 9: The National Conference Wednesday welcomed the move to summon former army chief VK Singh calling it a 'victory of democracy.' The party hit out at the opposition PDP, terming their politics as "dirty and chameleonic (Sic)."
"PDP is enacting a drama by dancing and shouting about the Privilege motion accepted by the Speaker," said Chief Minister's Political Secretary Tanvir Sadiq in a statement here. "It was Ministers and NC members of both Legislative assembly and Council who brought a privilege motion against the revelation of former general VK Singh."
"Members of NC moved an adjournment motion and it was for the first time that the treasury benches pressed for a discussion. But the PDP preferred to be an obstructionist force and walked out and chose not to be a part of the discussion," Sadiq alleged.
He said, "From the very first day the NC members and Ministers have been not only demanding a probe into Singh's disclosures but also were the first ones to move the privilege motion against Singh."
"It was clearly stated on the Floor of the House by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he had sent a letter to Prime Minister on 25th September seeking a thorough probe into all allegations. And on his instance a resolution was passed in the assembly to seek a through probe into the matter," Sadiq said.
"The credit must go to the members and the ministers of the National conference who from the inception demanded a high level probe into the matter and exposing all the people who have been allegedly involved," Sadiq said.
