Srinagar, Oct 9: In connection with the Mental Health Week, the Department of Psychiatry, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, medical college Bemina, organized a treatment cum psychiatry awareness camp at sub- district hospital Gurez.
According to a communiqué, a team of doctors headed by consultant Psychiatry, Dr Majid treated patients having psychiatric disorders and provided free medication to majority of them.
"The camp was organised in the area as it remains cut off from the rest of valley due to inclement weather conditions," Dr Majid said adding the Psychiatric ailments in the area most of the times go untreated thus adding to the morbidity.
During the camp, he said, the people were made aware about the realities and myths associated with nature of psychiatric ailments and the importance of early intervention.
The Block Medical Officer SDH Gurez, Dr Feroz Iqbal, thanked the team, Principal and HOD (Psychiatry) SKIMS college for their efforts. He urged for organizing more camps in future so that the people hailing from this far-flung area could avail such facilities.
