Hurriyat Conference (G) has hit out at the Government for putting its Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani under continuous house arrest for the past 40 days.
In a statement, Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar said Geelani was on Friday "forcibly stopped from participating in the congregational prayers.""For past 40 days, police have surrounded the residence of Geelani Sahab, but on Friday they deployed more forces to prevent him from offering the Friday prayers. We condemn Government's policy with regard to Geelani Sahab."
"The 'soft policy' and 'change' like slogans of Mufti Sayeed (Chief Minister) have proved to be a hoax and government led by him is now working as a branch of the BJP in the state. Instead of making their own decisions, they are busy in implementing the orders which come from Nagpur," Akbar said.
Elaborating, he said "Omar Abdullah in his regime imprisoned Geelani sahab continuously for four years at his home. The Mufti government has started to follow the same path of unjustified house detention of the pro-freedom leader," he said.
"The statements of the DG police K Rajindra and IG Kashmir Javaid Gilani repeatedly denying the house detention of Geelani sahib are ironic. They are terming him a free man while as the truth is that Geelani Sahab is a caged leader and his house detention started right from April 20. He has not been allowed to come out for even a single day," he said.
