This central Kashmir district observed a shutdown on Friday to protest against the attempt of unknown miscreants to set the holy mausoleum of "Agas" located near 35 RR camp in the town on fire.
Locals said that unknown miscreants placed a burning gas cylinder in the mausoleum premises this morning causing some minor damages to the shrine. However, the cylinder went off automatically.
As the word about the incident spread in the area people took to the streets and staged massive protest to give vent to their ire.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam Fayaz Ahmad while talking to Greater Kashmir said:
" We have deployed additional battalion of forces to tackle any untoward situation , but there is no curfew like situation in the town."
We have registered a case in this regard and the investigations are on, he added.
STAY CALM: AGA SYED TO PEOPLE
Expressing outrage over the mysterious fire incident the Anjuman Shaire Shiyaan chairman Aga Sayed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Sufvi ruled out any design of fuelling sectarian hatred behind this undesirable incident and termed it a handiwork of burglars.
Addressing a Friday prayer meeting at Imambara, Budgam, Aga Syed appealed to the people stay calm and let the law take its own course in this matter.
Condemning the heinous act, Aga Sayed said, "The circumstantial evidence suggests that the incident is the handiwork of some thieves and burglars. However, there can also be possibility of any deep rooted conspiracy."
MAJLIS E ITTEHAD-E-MILLAT LAUDS AGA SYED
The Secretary General of Majlis e Ittehad e -Millat advocate Zahid Ali in a statement here said: "Some miscreants attempted to set a religious place belonging to the Shia community on fire during the previous night and tried to create communal strife between two communities in order to please their anti-Islamic mentors but the timely intervention by Aga Syed Hassan al Mosvi thwarted this sinister design of the enemies of Islam which helped in maintaining the age old Shia-Sunni harmony.
Majlis- e-Ittehad e – Millat lauds the positive role played by Aga Hassan sahib, President Unjuman e Sharei Sheyan at this crucial juncture and strongly denounces the anti – Muslim elements behind this fire incident. Majlis appeals both the communities to maintain their mutual cordial relations at all costs.
RAFI MIR ANGUISHED
PDP General Secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir has expressed deep sorrow and anguish over mysterious fire break out at a mausoleum of revered Shia religious leaders in Budgam. Mir urged upon the government to investigate the case on fast track basis and stressed that if it is confirmed to be a man made conspiracy then strict action should be taken.
DISTRICT BAR BUDGAM SUSPENDS WORK
District Bar Association Budgam has suspended its work today to protest and condemn the desecration of the Holy Book "Al-Quran" at Budgam during night hours. In a statement Bar has strongly condemned such shameful act and have advised the public in general and Muslim Ummah in particular to keep the common brotherhood intact and defeat such miscreants from repeating such incidents.
