The residents of this south Kashmir district have urged the authorities to immediately take up the road widening of Donipawa-Sherpora-Janglat Mandi stretch coming under Kishtwar-Sinthan-Islamabad road project.
They said that the widening of the 2 kilometer stretch from Donipwa to Janglat Mandi in Islamabad town has been shelved.
"Though the locals of Donipawa, Sherpora and Janglat Madi are completely in favor of the road widening but the authorities are not taking up the work on this stretch for unknown reasons," said Muzaffar Ahmad, a resident of Sherpora.
He said that the narrow road stretch witnesses heavy traffic jams and also makes the movement of the pedestrians difficult and hence its widening would have eased the sufferings of passengers as well as pedestrians.
"As the road is part of National Highway 2 B, connects Kokernag, Shangus tehsils and many tourist spots with Islamabad town and leads to the district hospital, so the district administration should immediately remove the bottlenecks if any and direct the Beacon to take up and accomplish the work immediately," said the residents.
The residents further said that the widening would give a fillip to trade activities in the area. "The proposal was mooted some seven years ago and the authorities had then notified the road and done its valuation. So we fail to understand what is stopping them from taking up the work," asked the residents.
They said that though they approached the authorities many a times but to no avail. "We appeal the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter," they added.
