Four people were arrested and 800 bottles of Codeine Phosphate recovered from their possession in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday, police said.
An official said some suspicious persons were covertly selling Coedine Phosphate among the youth who are involved in its abuse in Sumbal town and its adjacent areas.
After getting a tip-off, Sumbal Police laid a Naka at Shilvat to nab the peddlars.
Four persons, identified as Mohammad Ashraf Wani of Tulmulla Ganderbal, Hilal Ahmad Wani of Wangipora, Tanveer Ahamd Rather of Nesbal and Parvaiz of Ahmad Bhat of Ghalib Aabad Shalteing Srinagar boarding the Alto vehicle were taken into custody, Shabir Choudhary, SP Bandipora, told journalists at a news conference in Sumbal.
"We have lodged FIR 121/2015 U/S 8/21 NDPS against the accused and investigation has been taken up. The contraband was being transported to Sumbal town from Srinagar for sale among the youth indulged in its abuse," he said.
