Scores of activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Tulba Wednesday launched sanitation drive in flood-hit village of Kullan here while its parent organisation, Jama'at-e-Islami established a relief camp for the affected people on Srinagar-Leh highway in the hamlet.

The relief camp is providing food and medical aid to the sufferers.

The area was ravaged by flash floods caused due to cloudburst on July 16 that claimed five lives, injured many and damaged property worth crores of rupees in Kullan, Gagangeer, Bodpaden and Sonamarg.

About 50 families are being provided food, drinking water and medical facilities in the camp.

Gul Muhammad War, Jama'at district president for Ganderbal told Greater Kashmir that the relief work will continue for some time.

"As the flooding in Kullan area has destroyed most of the dwelling structures, we felt it our duty to reach out to the affected people and extend a helping hand to them as they are in dire straits after being hit by natural calamity," War said.
