National Conference Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani Saturday castigated Mufti Muhammad Sayeed government for its inability to maintain communal harmony in Rajouri following burning of  a flag bearing Quranic verses by a fanatic mob.

"It is sad that the present regime inspite of calming people are adding fuel to the fire. Dy CM's remark of not arresting rightwing activists of Bajrang Dal, VHP involved in the sacrilegious act is condemnable and disturbing.

We have been speaking about the communal tendencies of present regime for a long time now. This incident has vindicated our stand of calling PDP and BJP two sides of the same coin," Nasir said in a statement.

The NC Provincial President said the PDP-BJP combine is acting as a nexus where respect for religious beliefs is non-existent. "As a Muslim it pains us to see our religious scriptures being devoured by hate mongers who are hell bent to create a wedge between the two communities," Nasir said adding, "The sad part is that government which is supposed to uphold the secular credentials of the state is itself complicit in stoking communal hatred within the communities."

The provincial president has expressed displeasure over Mufti Muhammad Syed's "unpardonable silence" over the incident. "Instead of asking Nirmal Singh to issue an apology for hurting sentiments of Muslims, PDP ministers are pressurizing people by asking them not to protest. This is the height of insensitivity being perpetuated by those who claim to be the well wishers of people. Every right thinking individual has been hurt and we believe it is their right to protest against such acts," Nasir added.
