Army launched a joint initiative with the local populace to ensure high degree of sanitation in Kalaruch and Sarkuli areas of Kupwara district.
"In line with the nationwide Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Hajipir Brigade based at Kupwara joined hands with the civil administration and the local population in a vigorous cleanliness beyond tokenism stretched over five days on Aug 10," a defence spokesman said.
He added that Army organized a series of events in Kupwara that included painting competition for children of Jumagund village, distribution of water dispenser to the villagers, screening of a patriotic movie and hoisting of national flag.
"On the occasion, prizes were distributed to all the winners of drawing competition in which 38 students took part. First prize was bagged by BB Ashia (Class VIII), second by Zareefa Bano (Class VIII) and third by Munir Ahmed Muqal (Class IX)," the spokesman said.
