The State is soon going to have a Tribal Research Institute dedicated to studies concerning the tribal population of the State, Minister for Tribal Affairs, Ch Zulfkar Ali said here today during a meeting.

He added the Institute would be established to identify core areas to formulate welfare policies and programmes as per the developmental needs of the tribal community.

Discussing the modalities for establishing the said Institute, Zulfkar said the developmental requirements of tribals vary from area to area and keeping in view the ground realities, it is imperative that several institutions of Centre and state government work in tandem to achieve this goal.

The Minster said the Institute will undertake intensive studies on tribals' needs, culture, customs and arts in a holistic manner, adding that thrust would be laid to improve education and health sectors besides identification of growth centres in tribal areas which would help them come out of chronic backwardness and deprivation and ensure their comprehensive emancipation.

Zulfkar said the creation of such an institute would synergise the efforts and activities of various departments and organisations on the subject of tribal affairs.

Secretary Tribal Affairs, Director Tribal Affairs besides other officers of the department attended the meeting.
