Calls, SMS and Internet services on mobile phones were on Saturday suspended in Jammu and Kashmir.
The suspension on services was applicable to all service providers, including BSNL, Airtel, Aircel, Idea and Vodafone, in the state.
The step was taken to prevent militants from triggering remote-controlled explosive devices through the mobile phone, a top official, who did not wish to be named, told IANS.
The practice has been followed for many years when the services are suspended from around 8.30 a.m. till the time the state functions on August 15 in Jammu and in Kashmir come to an end.
While some postpaid phones would work during such curbs in past few years, the services were suspended on all the devices today.
