The residents, transporters and shopkeepers of Hariganiwan and its adjoining areas here staged protest demonstration and blocked Srinagar-Leh highway against alleged the district administration and Border Roads Organisation for their alleged indifferent approach towards dilapidated roads in the area.

Stating that the area was facing neglect, the protestors said that BRO has failed to repair the 15 kms patch from Kangan to Ganiwan on Srinagar-Leh highway.

They said the repair work on the road has been pending since years and they lodged several complaints with concerned officials but failed to get the road repairing expedited.

"Authorities charge road tax from us, then why do we have to face this nuisance? The roads have mostly caved in. And why the BRO is not acting," asked Muhammad Amir, a transporter of Ganiwan.
