The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani who continues to be under house detention, was again barred from offering Friday congregational prayers today by the police for the 18th time since his return from New Delhi on April 15, a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement.

"Extra police force was deployed around the residence of Geelani Sahab this morning and the senior police officers themselves visited Hyderpora and issued some guidelines to the police personnel deployed there. A heavy police vehicle bearing registration number JK01J-7092 is always placed at the main entrance gate of Geelani Sahab's residence. Today an additional police Jeep was placed on the airport road at the entrance of the lane leading to his residence," the spokesman said, adding that "The police have always failed to produce any written order or document mentioning the clause or section of the Act under which Geelani Sahab is not allowed to move out and for what crime is he being punished.

Meanwhile, the spokesman has refuted the reports that Geelani was released from house arrest on August 20, terming these as baseless.
