Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu Wednesday visited Pratap Park here to pacify NYC volunteers to end their hunger strike. The volunteers have been demanding implementation of a cabinet order suggesting their absorption in government sector.

The Finance Minister appeared in Pratap Park after a delegation of NYC female members led by Amandeep had called on PDP president Mehbooba Mufti at her Gupkar residence here.

Dr Drabu visited the protesting youth at 4:15pm and assured redressal of their grievance. He appealed them to end their strike.

However, the protestors did not relent, saying: "Let the government take its time in issuing formal orders for our engagement as regular employees. We will continue our hunger strike till the order is issued."

Later, NYC members raised anti-government slogans as Dr Drabu was leaving the venue.

Speaking to media, Amadeep said that they were first denied appointment with Mehbooba Mufti.

"We had to wait for several hours before being allowed to enter her Gupkar residence. We were surprised that she was unaware about our strike," she said.

She added that it was after they briefed her about hospitalization of various colleagues (protestors) who fainted during observing hunger strike.

"The only thing she said was that the matter pertains to Finance Minister who would visit you shortly," she added.

Asif Ali Bhat, president of the Association said, "We will continue our hunger strike till the orders are not issued," he said.
