The PDP has welcomed the verdict in the Machil fake encounter case wherein the Army has confirmed life sentence to its six personnel found guilty of murdering three youth.
Chief-spokesperson of PDP and former Parliamentarian, Dr. Mehboob Beg said that it was relieving to see the perpetrators of such a ghastly crime being made accountable and hoped that this would lead to justice in other cases of similar nature. Dr. Beg said that such a democratic and positive behavior was necessary to restore the confidence of the people of Kashmir. The action taken by the Army underlines the healing-touch policy adopted by the PDP leadership from 2002-2005, an initiative that the succeeding regimes failed to follow, said Beg.
Dr. Mehboob Beg pointed-out that all the good work done by the PDP leadership from 2002 to 2005 was undone by events like the land row, which left the state vertically divided. Dr. Beg also said that Mufti Sayeed had to restart the initiative that he took during his first term and the results would be there for the people to see, politically as well as economically.
Beg also said that PDP shall act as a facilitator in addressing the internal as well as the external dimensions of the political problem and that this Government would be known for its actions and not for mere 'lip service'.
Dr. Beg said that while cancellation of the Indo-Pak NSA level talks was unfortunate, the DGMO level talks was a positive development and the party welcomes the same.
