1173 vehicles seized, 5697 challaned in drive against violators

Continuing its drive against traffic violators to ensure people drive safely , Kashmir police in last six days has seized 1173 and challaned 5697 vehicles in different distract of valley.

Police in Kashmir valley have seized 1173 vehicles and challaned 5697 others in different districts in past six days, an official said.

In south Kashmir, 38 vehicles were seized while 327 were challaned in Anantnag, 34 vehicles were seized and 176 were challaned in Awantipora, 90 vehicles were seized and 293 were challaned in Kulgam, 34 vehicles were seized and 193 were challaned in Shopian and in Pulwama 95 vehicles were seized and 587 were challaned.

In Central Kashmir, 601 vehicles were seized and 1431 were challaned in Srinagar, 28 vehicles were seized and 250 were challaned in Budgam, 233 vehicles were challaned in Leh and Kargil, and in Ganderbal 91 vehicles were seized and 421 were challaned.

In North Kashmir, 71 vehicles were seized and 671 were challaned in Baramulla, 03 vehicles were seized and 36 were challaned in Kupwara, 35 vehicles were seized and 224 were challaned in Handwara, 37 vehicles were seized and 481 were challaned in Sopore and in Bandipora 16 vehicles were seized and 374 were challaned.

Kashmir police has reiterated that certain measures have to be adopted by the drivers and commuters for their safety and hassle free traffic movement, which include wearing a helmet, avoiding overtaking, control over speed, avoiding triple riding, wearing seat belts, avoiding driving on the wrong side, avoiding use of tinted glasses, avoiding drink driving, halting vehicles on pedestrian crossings and avoid use cell phones while driving etc.

It has once again requested the people particularly the drivers and vehicle owners to obey the traffic rules and co-operate with the Police for smooth and hassle free movement of traffic on roads.
