Gurupurab, the birthday anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, is being celebrated on Wednesday.
Governor, N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed have felicitated the people on the auspicious occasion.
In a message of greetings, the Governor described Guru Nanak Devji as an apostle of peace, adding that his teachings would continue to inspire generations, leading them to the path of righteousness and brotherhood.
In his felicitation, Mufti Sayeed said Guru Nanak Dev Ji was an apostle of tolerance and hoped the occasion would strengthen the bonds of love, amity and brotherhood among the people. Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh has also felicitated the people of the state on Gurupurab. He expressed hope that the occasion would further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the people.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and Member Parliament, Mehbooba Mufti in her greetings said that Guru Nanak's message of truth, compassion and tolerance has eternal relevance for liberation of humanity from violence and injustice.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and working president, Omar Abdullah have also greeted the people on Gurupurab, and expressed hope that the auspicious occasion would be harbinger of peace and brotherhood.
NC provincial president Jammu, Devender Singh Rana also greeted the people and hoped that such occasions would further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony and secular traditions.
Meanwhile, All Parties Sikh Co-ordination Committee (APSCC) has conveyed greetings to the people on the occasion of Gurupurab.
In a statement, APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said, "People should follow teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and his message of love and peace should spread across the world."
