The government has appointed three Additional Advocate Generals and a Deputy Advocate General to represent the state in Jammu and Kashmir High Court. It has, however, disengaged three Additional Advocate Generals.
Advocates M A Rathore, Majid Aftab Wani and Mehfooz Nazki were appointed as Additional Advocate Generals while Wakar Haq Khan was appointed as deputy Advocate General, an order of Law Department said.
In the wake of the appointments, the government has re-distributed litigation work amongst the law officers.
AAG Bashir Ahmad Dar has been allotted Law, Justices and Parliamentary Affairs in additional to the departments already allotted to him. Advocate M A Rathore, who has served as AAG from 2003-2009, has been allotted General Administration Department, apart from Health and Medical Education departments. Advocate Majid Aftab Wani has been given Finance department and Service Selection Board while Advocate Mehfooz Nazki has been allotted School Education, Board of Professional Entrance Examination and Srinagar Development Department.
Similarly AAG Shahbaz Sikander has been allotted Housing and Urban Development Department, Forest, Agro Industries Corporation and IMPA. Shah Aamir, Deputy Advocate general has been allotted transport, cooperative and SIDCO. Advocate Waqar Haq Khan has been given Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department besides State Financial Corporation.
