48-day Amarnath Yatra to commence from July 2

The 48-day Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 2 later this year and end on August 18, an official handout said on Thursday.

The 48-day Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 2 later this year and end on August 18, an official handout said on Thursday.

"Regarding the duration and date of commencement of Yatra 2016, based on the approach set out by the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Committee which had been set up to advise the Board regarding the duration and schedule of future Yatras, the Board, keeping in view the foremost concern of safety and security of the pilgrims, decided that a 48 day Yatra would commence on 2nd July 2016, an auspicious day (Massik Shivratri) as per Hindu Calendar and conclude on Shravan  Purnima (Raksha Bandan)  on 18th August 2016," said the handout.

It added that 7500 pilgrims would be allowed to register for Yatra- 2016 on per day per route basis. 

Governor N.N. Vohra, who is the Chairman of Amarnathji Shrine Board, presided over the 30th Board Meeting held at New Delhi in which the dates were decided.
