Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday claimed that the two kids were butchered by their mother in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on January 13 so she could teach her husband "a lesson" for engaging into an extra-marital affair.

Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday claimed that the two kids were butchered by their mother in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on January 13 so she could teach her husband "a lesson" for engaging into an extra-marital affair.

An official said that the minor kids – brother and sister – were "killed mercilessly with a knife by their mother Ruqia Bano".

"After killing her children, she attempted to commit suicide with the same weapon of offence," said an official.

Giving details, he said that on January 13, police station Kokernag received information regarding the murder of two infants – Imran Wagay, 4 and his sister Chandni, 2 – whose mother was also found in injured condition at Khretti Larnoo, Kokernag.

"In pursuance to this information an FIR Number 05/16 under section 302, 307, 452 PRC was registered in Police Station Kokernag and the investigation was taken up by a special investigating team (SIT) constituted by SSP Anantnag Shri Abdul Jabbar," said the official.

"She (mother) wanted to teach a lesson to her husband by killing the children as she suspected that her husband had an extra-marital affair with a woman in her neighborhood," claimed the official.

Further investigation is going on and the SIT is meticulously looking for evidence and reasons behind the "heinous crime".
