Scores of employees of Social Welfare department working under Integrated Child Development Scheme Sunday said they were suffering as their salaries have been withheld since last eight months.
A delegation of the employees, along with their families, told Greater Kashmir that they were facing immense hardships as authorities have not disbursed their monthly salaries for eight months.
"Imagine the plight of a person who is working but is not paid on time. We have families but nothing in hand to feed them," they rued.
An official of ICDS said that there was no coordination among officials on the budget, resulting in withholding of salaries of employees working under ICDS.
"It is true that salaries of these employees are withheld. We understand their plight. However, it is because of some misunderstanding that led non-inclusion of some money in the budget, resulting in withholding of salaries," he said.
Some of the employees broke down while narrating their woes they are facing while going through financial crisis.
The aggrieved employees appealed Governor NN Vohra to personally intervene in the matter and get their withheld salaries released.
No official was available for comment over the matter.
