Terming the statement of BJP MP and journalist M J Akbar as meaningless and unrealistic, Hurriyat Conference (G) Sunday said the Indian Muslims have themselves opted for this country while as Kashmir was an independent state before the partition.

A Hurriyat (G) spokesman said that "holding the people of Jammu and Kashmir as hostage for the Indian Muslims is totally against the democratic values and the principles of justice and it also negates those promises which the Indian rulers and the world community have made with the people of Kashmir."

"Linking of the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris with the rights of Indian Muslims is just a blackmailing and it does not have any constitutional or moral justifications," he added.
