Prominent separatist leader Abdul hai Khateeb of Bhaderwah passed away at his residence Tuesday evening. He was 89.
Khateeb was an active member of Plebiscite front and was jailed several times. He was close associate of Late NC Founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah in Bhaderwah jail. However, after 1975 accord, he parted ways and remained aloof for some time. He later joined Muslim United Front and after 1987 elections was jailed yet again.
Khateeb was ailing for quite sometime and wanted to see his son who crossed over to Pakistan administered Kashmir and could not return till date.
A pall of gloom descended upon Bhaderwah town as people came to know about his death. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard. Thousands of persons attended his funeral.
